Will the army except you if you have sleep apnea?
October 26th, 2009
My boyfriend goes for his physical thursday. He has been diagnosed with sleep apnea. He snores and stops breathing most nights for short periods of time while sleeping. He is suppose to use something when he sleeps but has not for a while. Will the army except him if they know this? He does not plan to tell them either. Will they find out?
Unforgiven, that is not what sleep apnea is.

Yes he will be found out. My uncle is in the army and he said that when he signed up he had to take every test you could think of. Such as a urine test, a cheek cell test, an eye test, a muscular test, a blood test and many more. I advise him not to.

My uncle served in the army almost his whole life now. He is only in the Irish Army and as you may know we are a very small and neutral army so im sure they would be more strict in other countrys.

Snoring will give away his position to the enemy.
I suspect that they might accept him, but they probably won’t except him. You do understand the difference?

I told you my story for 2 reasons… 1) Yes they will accept him even if he does tell them at MEPS. My fellow Marine became a Marine since they accepted it. 2) He will be fine to train like the others since the Marine Corps has the longest and toughest basic training in the US military. If he tries to hide it, they will always find out sooner or later.
EDIT: What the hell is wrong with your boyfriend? Now a hemoglobin problem? Tell him not to join the military since he will need multiple waivers and no recruiter is willing to do it for him.
