How do you stop SERIOUS snoring?

October 28th, 2009

Please, for the love of god, someone help. I’m a light sleeper, and my boyfriend snores CONSTANTLY at night. Even on his side. Those nose strips do not work at all. He’s even using a 100 dollar mouthpiece right now, and he’s still snoring like there’s nothing there. He’s tried throat sprays, nasal sprays, and just about everything else besides surgery. We can’t afford to see a doctor for ANY kind of professional treatment. I ask him to roll over or sleep on the couch, and he just screams at me to "shut the ‘eff’ up and learn to sleep better".

I can’t use earplugs because I need white noise to sleep. I can’t sleep on the couch because my scoliosis makes it really painful. Is there something that I can do?

Does anyone have any other ideas to get him to stop?

I’m literally one night away from packing up my daughter and my things and leaving him because of how things are at night. I’m sick and tired of putting up with his snoring and being awake all night.
It’s 5 in the morning here, and I’ve been up for the past 6 hours listening to him when I should be sleeping. My daughter will wake up soon for the day, and I haven’t slept at all. And guess who gets to take care of her while daddy finishes his beauty sleep?….. I mean, this is ridiculous quite frankly…

What can I do?

I deal with the same thing. It’s unusual that he wouldn’t stop if he’s on his side – maybe try nudging him to sleep on his stomach. My husband will definitely slow down if I get him to roll on his side – or spooning me!
I have a cool mist humidifier going all the time in the winter, then switch to a fan in the summer – for the background noise. I also have talk radio on.
Is he overweight? Often that can be a cause – though it isn’t in my husband’s case.
Some universities have sleep centres, which shouldn’t cost anything for him to get checked out since they use it as a teaching tool.
Otherwise, get HIM to go on the couch.
But I am concerned about his response to you when you bring it up – he’s not being very understanding…

has anyone gone for private treatment to help with snoring?
